A Soldier's Play Benefit Staged Reading
Mahogany Ensemble Theatre in association with Project 1 Voice presents a benefit staged reading of the Award-Winning Drama, 'A Soldier's Play'. The performance will be held Monday, June 17, 2013 at 7:30 PM--pre-show reception starts at 6:30 PM.
Set in 1944 at Fort Neal, a segregated army camp in Louisiana, Charles Fuller's forceful drama--which won the Pulitzer Prize in 1982--tracks the investigation of this murder. A Soldier's Play is more than a detective story: it is a tough, incisive exploration of racial tensions and ambiguities among blacks and between blacks and whites that gives no easy answers and assigns no simple blame.
Director Angelique Feaster Evans has assembled a dynamic ensemble of some of the area's most talented performing artists for this special international event. Mahogany Ensemble Theatre is one of thirty African American theatre companies from all across the U.S.A. and Port Elizabeth, South Africa, presenting simultaneous staged readings of the same play on the same day!
All proceeds will benefit the programming initiatives of Mahogany Ensemble Theatre.
