2019 Mobile ArtHouse Film Series: AFROPUNK
Get inside film each month when the Gary International Black Film Festival brings critical conversation, intimate settings and powerful films to the center stage in our Mobile ArtHouse Film Series. Each month come savor provocative independent films! AFROPUNK the riveting documentary directed by James Spooner focuses on the lives of four African Americans dedicated to the punk rock lifestyle, interspersed with interviews from scores of black punk rockers from all over the United States. Fans of the film and the music inspired an alternative movement, that later became the annual Afropunk Festival beginning in 2005.
Afro-Punk features performances by Bad Brains, Tamar-kali, Cipher, and Ten Grand. It also contains exclusive interviews by members of Fishbone, 24-7 Spyz, Dead Kennedys, Candiria, Orange 9mm, The Veldt, and TV on the Radio, among others.
