Thompson Street Opera Company Presents "An Afternoon of Shorts"
Thompson Street Opera Company Presents:
An Afternoon of Shorts!
Join us for Thompson Street Opera Company's 2013 season! Featured on both Sundays of the season is a matinee program of short pieces-- both opera and art song-- with subjects ranging from quantum physics to bird song. The repertoire is as follows:
QUANTUM MECHANIC by John Bilotta In this futuristic, off-the-wall Aesop's fable, a malfunctioning kitchen appliance wreaks havoc with the space-time continuum.
CONVERSATIONS BETWEEN OWL, NIGHTINGALE, AND LARK by Hong-da Chin This duet for flute and soprano is a musical dialogue with the poetry of George MacDonald.
CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE HILLBILLY KIND by Yvonne Freckmann This delightful mini-opera is based on a real-life encounter the composer had on a public bus with a very talkative native Kentuckian.
SNOW WHITE TURNS SIXTY by Dale Trumbore This dramatic song cycle re-imagines several well-known fairy-tales from the female character's point of view.
