Biography:
Surel's Place resident Aubrey Clinedinst is a professional clown and puppeteer from the New York City area. A performative spirit since a young age, Aubrey began working towards her profession when she first went to Italy to study Commedia dell'Arte. Here, Aubrey discovered her passion for clowns of all sorts, both Commedia and Red-Nose, and brought this passion back to her work in the States. Simultaneously, Aubrey began to delve further into the puppet arts, encouraged by her skill in costumes and props and guided by her developing clown skills. After college, Aubrey pursued as many opportunities as she could in these fields, going on to work for Martin P. Robinson and The Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre. Wanting to work more on her personal art, Aubrey pursued an MFA in Physical Theatre from the Accademia dell'Arte in order to improve her skills and hone her own artistic voice. Here, her two worlds were able to fully combine to create a clown and puppet theatre that takes a hard look at many serious topics and brings a pathetic, optimistic point of view to the table, while playing with elements of fantasy. Aubrey strives to use her work to create community out of laughter and to expand the imaginations of her audiences.
