Sarah Bauhan and Elmwood Station
Expect reels, jigs, hornpipes, waltzes and some lovely songs when Sarah Bauhan and The Elmwood Station, band in concert at The Dance Hall in Kittery on Saturday, February 2nd, at 7 p.m.
Bauhan, a native of the Monadnock region of New Hampshire, but who lived on the Seacoast for twenty years, is a noted Celtic flutist and whistle player who has been part of the New England traditional music scene since her teenage days in the 1970s.
Together as the Elmwood Station Band, Sarah will be joined at the concert by a host of familiar musician friends from the Seacoast: David Surette on guitar, mandolin, and bouzouki, Susie Burke on vocals and drum, Kent Allyn on piano and bass, Chloe Green on vocals and train whistle, and Russell Orzechowksi on fiddle and accordion. Jane Orzechowski from Newport, NH, Sarahs long-time musical collaborator is on the fiddle.
The band came into existence while recording Sarahs latest album, Elmwood Station at Thundering Sky studio in South Berwick. After a successful launch with accompanying concerts, the band signed up to keep playing together because it was so much fun!Elmwood Station includes traditional music from Ireland, Scotland, Shetland, England, French Canada, Sweden, and New England, as well as original compositions that capture the sometimes buoyant, often haunting spirit of Celtic music. Bob Walton of Folk Roots magazine describes Bauhans playing as lovely, thoughtful music . . . like liquid spring sunshine.
