ARHS Presents: The Laramie Project (an immersive theater production)
Join us for a memorable, exciting evening of theater at ARHS!
Co-produced by the ARHS Theater Company and the Sexuality and Gender Alliance (SAGA), we invite you to an immersive production of The Laramie Project, a documentary play created by the Tectonic Theater Company in NY.
Created entirely from interview transcripts and public statements by the residents of Laramie, WY shortly after the brutal killing of Matthew Shepard, the show explores a town reckoning with a horrific crime that started a national dialogue on homophobia, hate crimes and the conscience of the American public.
This performance, featuring a cast of nearly 40 actors playing over 60 roles, will invite audiences to actively explore the show as they move through the ARHS halls, encountering its characters in a variety of locations. By doing so, audience members will have frequent opportunities to choose how, when, and where they meet these characters as they thread together the many stories they'll hear across the night.
Audiences should be advised that they will be mobile during the evening (the show is physically accessible for all), and will encounter challenging language at several points in the evening. This includes some graphic descriptions and homophobic language that would not be acceptable in a non-theatrical setting. Attendees younger than high school age must be accompanied by an adult.
A post-show talkback, hosted by members of SAGA, will accompany all shows. We invite you to join us in the conversation.
