Burns fur bairns, Burns fur big bairns, Burns fur abody!
Andy Cannon is one of Scotlands leading storytellers and theatre makers. In Oor Rabbie, he has teamed up with musician and singer Wendy Weatherby to present an hour of interactive storytelling theatre. Rabbie Burns is a storyteller first and foremost, says Cannon. And I think the fact that he tells such good stories in his poems is the reason they lend themselves to theatre.'
In his work with Wee Stories Theatre for Children and his solo work since, Cannon explores Scottish culture and history with a light touch and a gift for storytelling which engages audiences of all ages from "8 to 80". Scotlands national poet penned some ripping yarns in his time. But getting your head, and your tongue, around the language of Robert Burns isnt always easy, however, actor, writer and director, Cannon is well versed in the work of the bard. The show features Burns most popular works including Tam OShanter, Tae a Mouse, Tae a Louse, Address to a Haggis lots of audience participation, poetry, storytelling and live music.
Wee Stories are known for their clear, captivating performance style something Cannon has carried over into this project with Wendy. The first thing we do in Wee Stories is entertain ourselves, and thats true for Wendy and I as well, he says. And as far as Cannon is concerned, 'Tam OShanter and Holy Willies Prayer? Great stories that you find yourself getting drawn into.'
Were he alive today, you get the feeling that Robert Burns would like Andy Cannon (The List) One of our most gifted storytellersAndy Cannon has us spellbound. (Herald) One of Scotlands best musicians and singers. (Folkworld on Wendy Weatherby).
Oor Rabbie toured schools and community centres in Edinburgh, the Lothians and Greater Glasgow throughout January 2017 and was performed as part of Burns Unbound at the National Museum of Scotland celebrating the poetry and legacy of Robert Burns as part of a packed programme of creative activities and performances.
