About Our sliding scale. Our scale is designed to reflect and educate about the true financial reality of Americans. It shows 5 economic class groups based upon the actual medium income in the US of 31,000 and uses Census Bureau info to break everyone into 5 income groups.
This is an individual scale. To place yourself please think of your families take home income and divide by the number of people in your family (eg 1 earns 40,000 and one earns 60,000 this equals 100,00-divided by 2 equally 50,000 for where to put yourself on the scale - regardless of whether you are the 40K or 60K earner in the family. If you have two children than 100k divided by 4 would put you at 25K. We are aware that some people have catastrophic expenses like health care or child support, etc so adjust yourself down a category if that seems fair. No one is checking on this - it is for you to think about.
