Karina Longworth presents OUTRAGE
For this event, author and creator of the You Must Remember This podcast Karina Longworth will join us at Chicago Filmmakers for a special screening of the 1950 film Outrage. In Outrage, a young woman's life is shattered when she is raped while on her way home from work. This black-and-white B-movie starring Mala Powers and directed and co-written by Ida Lupino is notable for being only the second post-Code Hollywood film to deal with the issue of rape.
Karina Longworth's new book Seduction is a riveting history that probes the inner workings of Hollywood's glamorous golden age through the stories of some of the dozens of actresses pursued by Howard Hughes. Longworth reveals how the millionaire moguls obsessions with sex, power and publicity trapped, abused, or benefitted women who dreamt of screen stardom long before the recent Harvey Weinstein scandal.
Karina will introduce the film. Following the screening, she will lead a discussion about both the film and how it relates to her new book, SEDUCTION. The event will conclude with a book-signing.
Karina Longworth is the creator, producer and host of You Must Remember This, a podcast on the secret and forgotten history of 20th Century Hollywood, as well as the author of books on George Lucas, Al Pacino, and Meryl Streep.
Tickets are non-refundable. If you purchase a ticket that includes a copy of the book and are unable to attend, you'll have 30 days after the event to pick up your copy of SEDUCTION at Women & Children First (5233 N. Clark St.)! Proof of ticket purchase required.
