Syrinx Concerts -March 3, 2019
Syrinx will welcome violinist Laurence Kayaleh and Michael Kolk on the guitar to the stage. These exceptional musicians will be performing an inspired program including the music of Niccolo Paganini, Ferdinand Rebay: Manuel de Falla, Astor Piazzolla and Canadian composer Patrick Roux.
Laurence Kayaleh has performed as soloist at the Bolchoï Hall and at the Tchaïkovsky Hall in Moscow with the Russian National Orchestra as well as at the Pleyel Hall in Paris with the Lamoureux Symphony Orchestra. Her American career rewarded her with standing ovations wherever she performed : at the Blossom Festival with the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra, at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts with Washingtons National Symphony Orchestra, and at the Powell Hall with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. In 1996, Laurence was granted the Nyon City Artistic Award, Switzerland. Laurence Kayalehs repertoire covers the works written for the violin. She performs on a magnificent Pietro Guarneri built by the Venetian master in 1742, which belonged to the eminent violinist and pedagogue, Carl Flesch.
Michael Kolk has performed at music festivals and concert halls throughout Europe and North America and has been called "one of the most musical guitarists performing and recording today" (This is Classical Guitar). Liona Boyd has described him as "one of the most brilliant and expressive classical guitarists I have heard in my life". A prize winner at numerous guitar competitions, Michael has released two solo albums to date, as well as two albums as part of the Henderson-Kolk Guitar Duo. Michael has collaborated with musicians in both classical and popular genres, and made his orchestral debut as a soloist with the Toronto Philharmonia. He has also performed with the Canadian Opera Company, Opera in Concert, Tapestry Opera, and CineConcerts.
Patrick Roux has won awards in prestigious competitions as a guitarist. In 1984, he was awarded first prize at the Conservatoire by a unanimous jury. He also received first place in the Canadian National Guitar Competition in 1989, second place in the Concours International de Duo de Guitare Classique de Montélimar (France) in 1992 and third place in the D'Addario Guitar Foundation of America International Competition in 1983. At the outset of the 1990s. Patrick began to develop a strong interest in composition. Since then, he has continued to produce works published by Les Productions d'Oz, distributed internationally and performed by leading musicians around the world.
