Robbie O'Connell and Rose Clancy, with Giulia Haible and Caroline Dressler
Robbie O'Connell made his Burren Series debut four years ago and since then, his yearly appearances have been among the most anticipated. His story-telling, wit, song-writing, and a personality that exudes warmth will again make this February afternoon an occasion to drive the winter chill away.
Opening for Robbie and Rose are Caroline Dresssler and Giulia Haible, a duo of musicians who illustrate the strength of the next generation to take Celtic music to new heights here in the US. So much so in fact, they have already appeared alongside many U.S. Scottish fiddlers including Katie McNally (who produced their album, Dragonfly), Hanneke Cassel, Alasdair Fraser, and Natalie Haas.
From Robbie, here is one of my favorites songs, a re-working of an old traditional song, The Keg of Brandy.
The Burren Backroom series is now well established as one of the most sought-after boutique series of trad presentation in the world. It has already created already dozens of memorable, intimate, informal presentations held in a truly atmospheric space which was founded by well-known traditional musicians Tommy McCarthy and Louise Costello in Davis Square, Somerville, Massachusetts.
Hosted by Brian O'Donovan of A Celtic Sojourn on WGBH radio, these gatherings feature core performers from many aspects of traditional music as well as special guests, and conversations around the music. As is the custom of the Burren, it is anticipated informal and dynamic post concert sessions will be a feature.
Tickets prices vary with a $5 discount for WGBH Members. If you are a member, send an e-mail to celtic@wgbh.org and we will send you the code.
