KGNU & CFCZs Annual Mardi Gras Dance Party featuring Zydeco Masters Preston Frank and Ed Poullard with the Creole Dance Band
KGNU Community Radio and CFCZ celebrate Mardi Gras with an evening of music and dance with the Preston Frank-Ed Poullard Creole Dance Band on Saturday, February 23, 2019.
For several years running, inimitable zydeco masters Preston Frank and Ed Poullard have delighted audiences across the country, including the prestigious Rhythm-n-Roots Festival in Rhode Island and Grass Roots in Trumansburg, NY, not to mention their home base of Southwest Louisiana and Southeast Texas. They play an older, yet exuberant style of zydeco thats a gumbo of Cajun, old-time Creole la-la and todays modern zydeco thats steeped in tradition but still relevant for todays audiences. The multi-instrumentalist Poullard hails from a long line of zydeco musicians as does Preston Frank, the father of the mega-popular zydeco star Keith Frank. Both musicians teach accordion and fiddle at various music camps across the country to budding enthusiasts.
A zydeco dance lesson starts at 7 p.m., music at 8 p.m., doors at 6 p.m. The Avalon Ballrooms dance floor will be vibrating with enthusiasm at this annual Mardi Gras event.
Oskar Blues will provide delicious Cajun-style fare for purchase, followed by a traditional celebratory King Cake. Wine & beer will be available for purchase. In the spirit of Mardi Gras, there will be a costume contest with prizes. Its your time to shine and win the more outrageous the better!
This event benefits KGNU Community Radio, which has been broadcasting on the Front Range for 40 years at 88.5 FM and for the last 14 years at 1390 AM. For more information visit KGNU.org.
