KOLOBOK with Audra Kubat - A fundraiser for the Chalfonte Foundation
Audra Kubat and KOLOBOK A fundraiser of fairytale proportions
On the afternoon of Sunday December 9th at the Planet Ant Hall in Hamtramck, a portal of puppets and music will appear and for a short time all can become a kid again at a fantastical sort of storytelling event. This special event, which is an exclusive fundraiser for the Chalfonte Foundation, will feature a light-hearted children's music program by folk artist Audra Kubat followed by the puppet show Kolobok presented by Detroit's PuppetART Theatre.
Founded in 1995, PuppetART offers a repertoire of eleven productions based on fairytales and folktales from around the world. Performances feature hand, rod, shadow, and string or marionette puppets all designed to incorporate the artistic traditions of the culture the source material is drawn from. Kolobok is the Russian version of the Gingerbread Man. In this colorful tale with a happy ending, the fat little dumpling bun made by an elderly couple with no children of their own, magically comes to life and runs away from his parents to explore the world. He meets others along the way who all want to eat him such as a big sleepy bear and a sly fox. A mixture of puppets and live actors, including actress Jaclyn Strez and actor Nicholas Pobutsky dolled up in colorful costumes, Kolobak is a delight for all ages. For more about the world of puppets visit PuppetARTs website at https://www.puppetart.org/.
The kids music program by Audra Kubat comes from her interactive storytelling and songwriting workshops where kids can participate in creating the music. "It can be incredibly impactful for a child to find their creative voice. The moment when they hear their words reflected back in song, you understand that you have helped inspire a sense of accomplishment and creative wonder in them, says Audra. Kubat's music career spans more than two decades and encompasses teaching and songwriting to live performances locally and nationally. In the past the Foundation has held its annual event at the Bonstelle Theater during Wayne State University's annual holiday production. We love the Bonstelle and their productions, says Aaron Timlin, the Foundations new Executive Director. This year, with the help of some of our friends, we decided to do something different on our own. I'm happy to be working on this event for the Foundation with people and places I consider family, Audra, PuppetART and the Planet Ant.
All proceeds from the event support the Chalfonte Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. For nearly 20 years the Chalfonte Foundation has been providing support for special needs children and their families through cultural activities, kids camp camaraderie, financial aid, counsel and much more. The Foundation gives many of their tickets away each year to children and their families in need. Of course we would like to realize a huge profit for the Foundation, but more important is to provide kids with a different experience in the performing arts, says founder James L. Meyer. To purchase tickets for this event or sponsor a ticket to a Chalfonte Kid please send a check and self addressed envelope to The Chalfonte Foundation 4600 Woodward Ave STE 308 Detroit MI 48201. Or visit our event page at https://chalfonte.brownpapertickets.com/
Pricing is as follows: Adults: $30.00; Youth & children: 5-18: $15.00; kids under 5: FREE; Sponsorship: $60.00 (sponsor 4 Chalfonte Kids to attend the event).
