The Oregon Bluegrass Association Sonny Hammond Memorial Gospel Show
The Oregon Bluegrass Association is pleased to present our annual Gospel Show. Named in honor of one of the founding members of the OBA, the Sonny Hammond Memorial Gospel Show raises funds to help the OBA share bluegrass music with our community.
The Greg Blake Band will headline our 2019 show.
Greg Blake is known internationally for his soulful voice and powerful guitar chops, both as a soloist and with the band Jeff Scroggins and Colorado. For our event, his band will feature 2017 IBMA Momentum Award Nominee Ellie Hakanson on fiddle, who grew up in the greater Portland area. Nico Humby, who makes his home in Alberta, Canada, has played with and for Greg for many years, and you wont forget the energy he will bring to this evening. And rounding out the band will be multi-instrumentalist Miles Zurawell, from Victoria, B.C., who plays dobro, banjo and mandolin.
A local pair of musicians, Side Dish Duo will share some songs with us on this special evening as well. Tommi Poelstra, known for her strong vocals and banjo technique, and Martin DeGroot, on vocals, mandolin, and guitar, blend together in a delightful harmony.
Opening the show, the Corral Creek Bluegrass Band has been performing in the Pacific Northwest for many years. As they will share familiar and original gospel songs, their homespun humor and dialog draw the audience in. Ron Taylor, on guitar, anchors the band, with help from Pam Young on mandolin, Carl Dornfeld on fiddle, Ed Fegles on banjo, and Tracy Hankins on bass. Each band member joins in on lead or harmony vocals.
Come early for jamming at 5:30. The show begins at 7.
