2ND FRIDAY @ MONDO Music Concert Series Event with COMPAS in Concert
The new popular bi-monthly 2ND FRIDAY @ MONDO Music Concert Series brings to you a special evening of Latin music traditions and more in concert on the second Friday of every other month at this unique venue. The series brings on this evening the sounds of popular Latin American music with the exuberant COMPAS music quintet. Dance if you must in the wonderfully intimate 3rd level Brownstone Theater arts space at the new and unique arts related MONDO venue in quaint downtown Summit, NJ.
COMPAS, which translates to rhythm, founders Adrienne Riofrio and Dario Scholis together created an ensemble that performs popular Latin American compositions from a variety of genres. Bombo, Cuban Son, Cumbia, Ecuadorian Folk, Colombian Folk, Merengue, Bachata, Boleros, Cha-cha-cha and more are performed in a style that is reflective of popular gatherings of song and dance by friends and families throughout Latin America.
Adrienne Riofrio grew up immersed in classical music and folkloric music from Ecuador, her parents' native country. When she relocated to New Jersey and started playing music with her cousin, Dario, COMPAS was born. Adrienne is fulfilling a dream of performing, and using her classical and folkloric violin training to express herself with COMPAS.
Musician and fine artist Dario Scholis, a native of Quito, Ecuador was influenced by his musician father and began playing guitar when he was 12 years old. By the age of 18 he was an in demand performer and guitar instructor. He relocated to the United States in 1981 and has been a member of various music ensembles. Adrienne and Dario are joined by fellow COMPAS music artists; Juan Pablo Cano on bass, Cesar Ruiz on congas and percussion and Juan Carlos Romero on flute and percussion.
May we suggest that you plan to enjoy a delicious dinner or dessert before or after the show at one of several fine dining establishments in downtown Summit and the surrounding area. Many within walking distance from MONDO. Event proceeds benefit in part programming efforts at TEATRO Si, a 501(c)3 not for profit NJ corporation.
