Lo Kai Comedy Blast with Steve Sweeney
After online sales end, tickets will be sold at the door (cash only) if space is available.
On the final Saturday night of 2018, laugh your won tons off with Boston's character king, Steve Sweeney. Showtime is 8 p.m. at the Lo Kai Restaurant, Dracut, with doors opening at 6:30 for dinner. Tickets are $20 at the Lo Kai or on line, or by phoning (800) 838-3006.
The show is presented by Scamps Comedy Productions. Sweeney appears with three other great Boston comedians: Jeff Koen, Jason Merrill, and host Dave Rattigan.
Sweeneys keen dialect and character skills have made him Boston's funniest comedian and a key figure on the city's cultural landscape. He's become a local legend, a status he lampooned in the 2018 film Sweeney Killing Sweeney. Raised in hard-scrabble Charlestown, he has carried its influences with him through a career thats included nearly 25 films, national television appearances, radio hosting, and thousands of nights headlining Bostons best comedy clubs. He has been a featured on major television shows including David Letterman, Evening at the Improv, Comics Come Home and Comedy Central, and starred in his own Boston-based sitcom, Park Street Under. His trademark political satire has earned him top host spots on Boston radio stations 100.7FM WZLX (Sweeneys Neighborhood) and 95.9 FM WATD (Jay Mohr and Opie & Anthony.)
Jeff Koens family was on Americas Funniest Home Videos and won $10,000. Can anything be more glamorous than that? Koen often works the clubs and theaters of New England with Juston McKinney, and is in constant demand as an actor on independent film projects. Hes known for his portrayal of one of the characters in the on-line cartoon Man Servants, and for playing the offensive Uncle Rick in the 2010 cult film Heavy Times, which gained him fans from all of the world, though not very many in any one country. A guy from Sri Lanka wanted to visit me and stay at my house, he said. All he needed me to do was write a letter to the prime minister.
Jason Merrill is the latest from a recent line of strong comedians from the great city of Lawrence, Massachusetts. He has impressed audiences with his streetwise style and good-natured exuberance. Drawing upon his own experiences, he finds the funny in everyday life. He has shared the stage with accomplished comedians such as Juston McKinney, Lenny Clarke, Christine Hurley, Joe Yannetty, and Dave Russo.
Dave Rattigan, who performed at the Lo Kai with Jimmy Dunn in November, returns to host the show. The veteran Boston comedian has performed at Fenway Park, The Cape Cod Melody Tent, a lumberyard, the lobby of an ad agency, and a library. His CD has been played on Sirius Satellite Radio, and hes performed on the Steve Katsos Show. Hes done commercials for Olympia Sports and iParty, and performed in Dublin and Kilkenny, Ireland and in Boston with Irish comedians Ardal OHanlon and Joe Rooney. Hes performed at the Hampton Beach Comedy Festival (NH), Boston Comedy Festival, Women in Comedy Festival, and Salem Comedy and Spirits Festival, and shared the stage with Bill Burr, Jeff Dunham, the Beach Boys, Steven Wright, Bob Marley, Nick DiPaolo and more. He also runs Scamps Comedy Productions, which produces live comedy shows and fundraisers.
