Now in their 23nd year as recording artists, The Kennedys are busier than ever, continually touring the US and UK. They're currently working on a new album, and getting ready to release Pete's autobiography.
Pete and Maura Kennedy, both East Coast natives, met in Austin, Texas, joined forces with Nanci Griffiths Blue Moon Orchestra for a couple of years, and set out on a road that, for more than two decades, has led them not only west but all over the US and the UK many times. In 2015, they celebrated their twentieth anniversary both as a band and a married couple. Rather than indulge in a nostalgic look backward, theyve taken Dylans dictum dont look back to heart; writing and recording forty new songs.
2015 saw a Maura solo CD, a Pete solo CD, and the release of West, an instant classic Kennedys duo set that seamlessly weaves their influences over the last two decades; Buddy Holly style roots, the tuneful cadences of the Everly Brothers, and the ringing 12-string jangle of the early Byrds, interspersed with darker moments that recall British folk rock a la Fairport Convention. These projects add to their discography of over 20 albums.
Were honored that these two incredibly gifted and talented artists bring their songs to East Rock Concert Series stage with regularity, where we continue to witness that their style and entertainment simply keep getting better and better, with each concert. It is pure magic - it has to be experienced, it is impossible to depict accurately with a description, no matter how we might try.
