Imagination-Based Poetry Workshop
Stimulate your writing through exercises based on re-discovering and using your imaginative skills. Exercise and enhance your brain's imaginative 'muscle memory.' Learn to use wordplay to activate the inherent energy in language and come up with the initial ideas you are looking for to write poems. Imagination-based poetry moves away from the traditional or confessionalist approach to writing and gives the writer permission to create space for the imagination to explore, invent and roam. Unlike traditional workshops which focus on editing and fine tuning of work, this workshop targets the generative and brainstorming aspects of the writing process.
George Wallace is writer in residence at the Walt Whitman Birthplace, writing professor at Pace University in Manhattan, and author of 33 chapbooks of poetry in the US, England, Italy, India, Albania and Greece. In 2003 he was named first poet laureate for Suffolk County, LI NY. In 2015-16 he served as the first poet laureate of the national Beat Poetry Festival in Middletown Ct.
