52 Letters
52 Letters is a one-woman poetic stage play designed to bring awareness to the horrific and brutalizing circumstances surrounding sex trafficking and its affects upon American youth and women
Written and performed by Regina Y. Evans, co-directed by Regina Y. Evans and Louel Senores, acting stage manager, Louel Senores.
Regina Y. Evans (writer/performer) is a Poet, Playwright , and a Social Justice Performer. Ms. Evans volunteers as a Modern Day Abolitionist in the fight against sex trafficking. Recently, she has performed her Social Justice poetic pieces in Washington DC (Network for Victim Recovery of DC Fundraiser) and Philadelphia, PA (The Justice Conference: Poetry Slam). Additionally, she has performed as a part of the DIVAS Tell All series, curated by Catherine Debon, at The EXIT Café in San Francisco, CA.
Ms Evans is the writer of Echo: A Poetic Journey into Justice, a stage play also focusing upon the issue of trafficking. Echo played to sold out performances in Berkeley, CA in 2010 (The Berkeley City Club). The play caught the notice of President Barack Obama who confirmed his support of the effort through a personal White House phone call in 2011.
Ms. Evans is the published author of the inspirational poetry books Nonnie and The Butterfly and Nothing Cool About Ten.
Louel Señores (co-director) received his BA from UC Berkeley in 2009 (GO BEARS!) and has been immersed in theater ever since! A 2010 Landisman Fellowship recipient, Louel's stage management credits include productions with Central Works, Just Theatre, Symmetry Theatre, and Impact Theatre, among othersincluding Regina's previous show, Echo: A Poetic Journey into Justice. He is also a House Manager at the Aurora Theatre, as well as The Marsh in Berkeley.
Nowadays, he is beginning to pursue his acting careerYou may have seen him at last year's SF Fringe Festival (in Bible-NOT: Stories for Grown-ups), the SF Olympians' Festival (In the Silence of Tangerine Groves / Demeter), the 24-Hour Playfest by PCSF, various staged readings, or at the Marsh Youth Theater's recent production, In and Out of Shadows, a world premiere musical about undocumented teenagers written by Gary Soto. Despite incessant budget cuts in the UC system, he continues to work with the Interactive Theater Program at UC Berkeley.
Oh, and during the day, in order to make actual money to live on, he cleans houses and does standardized patient work. Fun times.
