"Band of Friends" featuring Davy Knowles - Blues Concert & tribute to Rory Gallagher
You're invited to Studio Bob in Port Angeles, Saturday December 15th, 7:30 pm to enjoy the renowned Blues group BAND OF FRIENDS. Band of Friends, winner of the 2013 European Blues Award, will present a celebration of Rory Gallagher's life and music. Rory Gallagher reached a massive audience from Norway to Japan to the USA, producing some of the greatest rock/blues albums of the 60s, 70s and 80s until his passing in 1995. The band consists of Rory's original rhythm section, George McCoy and Ted McKenna. They're fronted by the young blues star, guitar virtuoso Davy Knowles! Band of Friends' current tour takes them from California's Ramona Mainstage and iconic clubs like Blues and Biscuits and Moes Alley, to Portland's Aladdin Theater, and Vancouver BC's Fox Stage. Their performance at Studio Bob is their last in North America before finishing their tour in Athens, Greece.
DAVY KNOWLES is a Blues Rocker originally from the Isle Of Man, now residing in Chicago. Highlights from Davy's career include playing live to Astronauts on the International Space Station from mission control in Houston - one of a handful of artists invited to do so. He's best known for fronting his own Band, the Davy Knowles Band as well as fronting for the popular blues rock band, Back Door Slam. He's toured alongside the likes of Jeff Beck, Joe Satriani, Chickenfoot, The Rhythm Devils, and Gov't Mule. Knowles also toured with Jeff Beck, Buddy Guy, The Who, Warren Haynes, George Thorogood, Peter Frampton, Joe Bonamassa, Kid Rock, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. His musical influences include Robert Johnson, Dire Straits, Rory Gallagher, Peter Green and Eric Clapton to name a few.
Davy's touring began with the UK and Europe and numerous international festivals including Jakarta, Tokyo, and Perth, Australia. He continues to this day, both a knockout acoustic Delta Blues player as well as an electric guitar-slinging virtuoso and festival headlining favorite at events like Lollapalooza, Memphis In May, Bonnaroo, and Austin City Limits. In 2011 Knowles's song "Reach Higher" was the official anthem for the Youth Commonwealth Games, and in 2012 his birthday tribute to Woody Guthrie - a stunning electric version of Pastures of Plenty - was released in aid of WhyHunger? 15 time Grammy nominee Joe Satriani calls Davy "My favorite modern bluesman."
GERRY McAVOY (Bass Guitar) played with Rory for 20 years, from 1971 to 1991 and on every album Rory ever made. He wrote a book about his career called RIDING SHOTGUN, published in Germany as ON THE ROAD. He's also known for time spent with blues legend Champion Jack Dupree, Deep Joy, and Nine Below Zero. He's recorded on some of the top albums of our time.
TED McKENNA (Drums) played with Rory from 1977 to 1981 and with numerous rock legends such as Greg Lake (King Crimson, Emerson, Lake, & Palmer, Gary Moore), Gary Moore (Skid Row, Thin Lizzy, Colosseum II) and The Michael Schenker Group (also UFO & Scorpions), just to name a few. McKenna is a rock drummer's drummer and 2015 European Blues Awards winner of Best Musician Performance.
Gerry and Ted have shared stage with too many to mention, from BB King to George Harrison of The Beatles.
