WNEP THEATER'S 14TH ANNUAL SKALD
In days of yore (specifically way back in the 9th century), a Skald was a Viking poet. Oral historians who regaled the listener with tales of history, the supernatural, and general Nordic badassery.
Centuries later, WNEP Theater embraces this tradition by knocking it into the canvas with an uppercut and bringing you some of the best storytellers in Chic ago, who compete for immediate cash and eternal glory. We pit oral brawlers against one another, until one stands alone. Glorious and sated.
Welcome to THE SKALD. Two nights of completion and tales you won't soon forget!
Friday, June 14th, 8pm. The Maelstrom. The Undercard. Six competitors will go head to head in our improvised storytelling contest. Three rounds. One decision. The winner will be selected by our audience and will be awarded a $50 cash prize on the spot! Tickets $10.
Saturday, June 15th, 8pm. The 14th Annual SKALD Competition. Our Main Event brings together ten amazing storytellers swinging solidly with funny, heartbreaking, and inspiring tales. Our judges, who will award $100 to the winner, include: WRITE CLUB creator Ian Belknap, Lifeline Theatre Artistic Director Dorothy Milne, Chicago critic Kerry Reid and Bitches Gotta Eat blogger/wordsmith, Samantha Irby.
