Callejon, The Alley
The Rainier Valley Youth Theatre (RVYT) and The AFrican ConeXion Project are partnering to co-produce Callejn (The Alley) for RVYTs 12th Annual 2008 SummerSTAGE. An original bilingual musical based on Callejn by Teatro Del Milenio of Peru, Callejon (The Alley) is an adaptation and translation by local artist Rose Cano. Based on the original script in Spanish by Gina Beretta of Teatro Del Milenio, Callejn (The Alley) is a musical, dance and theatre piece that will use traditional Afro-Peruvian rhythms to explore the story of Matas, the prodigal son who returns after years in New York to his old "alley" hang out in Peru to face his past and his ghosts in order to reclaim his Afro-Peruvian heritage.
Two guest artists from Peru, internationally known choreographer Luis Sandoval and Grammy award-winning guitarist Roberto Arguedas of Teatro Del Milenio, will work with a cast of youth ages 12-21. The play will be directed by Adrienne Green and Luis Sandoval and feature original music by Roberto Arguedas and local composer Paul Thomas.
