Small Sur + Peals with Vio Mire
Both hailing from the audio haven that is Baltimore, Small Sur & Peals employ seemingly disparate methods to create the mesmerizing sounds they make. Small Sur's music is like a soundtrack for being in the woods, or what you might hear when you plunge into your favorite swimming hole, hidden from the outside world. Carefully crafted melodies and somber, yet hopeful lyrics impart a timelessness to their thoughtful sounds. With the release of their latest LP Labor, Small Sur has really honed their craft and is staking their claim on Thoreau folk, as we'll call it. Peals is the collaboration of William Cashion of Future Islands and Bruce Willen, who played bass in Double Dagger. Their collaboration is a mellow, meditative departure from the sounds their known for but, it's a welcome and fitting diversion for these art-pop punk favorites. Vio Miré opens the night with beautifully sincere vocals and striking instrumentation.
