CLIFF EBERHARDT AT SANDYWOODS
FRIDAY, JUNE 28, 2013 - CLIFF EBERHARDT
7:30 pm, doors open 7 pm BYOB & food allowed $18 advance, $20 at the door
A driving force of the Greenwich Village New Folk Movement, Cliff Eberhardt's music is infused with influences ranging from Americana blues, Tex-Mex and passionate roadhouse ballads. His guitar playing, singing, and original folk songs and blues make for a compelling, thought-filled, emotional roller coaster of a concert.
Cliff knew by age seven that he was going to be a singer and songwriter. Growing up in Berwyn, Pennsylvania, he and his brothers sang together and their parents played instruments. His dad introduced him to the guitar and he quickly taught himself to play. Fortunate enough to live close to the Main Point (one of the best folk clubs on the East Coast), he cut his teeth listening to the likes of James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Bruce Springsteen, Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, Bonnie Raitt, and Mississippi John Hurt - receiving an early and impressive tutorial in acoustic music. At the same time, he was also listening to great pop songwriters like Cole Porter, the Gershwins, and Rodgers and Hart, which explains his penchant for great melodies and clever lyrical twists.
In 2012 Cliff performed in, and wrote original music for, The Taming of the Shrew at the Folger Shakespeare Theatre in Washington, DC. The show received rave reviews, and Cliff's performance in particular was singled out for high praise: "Eberhardt's musical compositions and acoustical guitar playing are delicious in their own right. There's something both clever and soulful in his songwriting. His gravelly voice on the low end also expresses a rich sweetness, as if Tom Waits melded with Richie Havens."
