An Evening of Gypsy Swing

CARAVAN GYPSY SWING ENSEMBLE and HARMONIOUS WAIL, two of the Madison area's favorites, are sure to heat the house up with their unique styles. Both draw from the rich influence of the European Gypsy musicians, most notably Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli who, from the 1930s on, created and developed what is known today as Gypsy Swing. CARAVAN GYPSY SWING ENSEMBLE also pulls influences from jazz, swing, traditional Latin, Parisian waltzes, and other vintage-jazz sources. This original and energetic group has a diverse repertoire and has learned to take Gypsy Swing music in a broad range of directions. What sets HARMONIOUS WAIL apart from other talent in this growing genre is the vocal excellence of Maggie Delaney-Potthoff. The intoxicating arrangements and the sheer joy the WAIL brings to every performance is nothing less than addictive. What a thrill to have two of the most talented champions of this style based in Madison and performing on our stage!
