ENSEMBLE ABCs - Compelling Work Samples
The Network of Ensemble Theaters (NET) is pleased to offer a two-part session on creating compelling work samples. Participants will look at funder guidelines, discuss review processes, writing effective sample narratives, and the steps needed to capture and edit high quality footage into a compelling and engaging final product.
SCHEDULE:
TUESDAY, MAY 28th at NOHspace 2840 Mariposa St, San Francisco, CA
PART 1 6:00pm - 10:00pm
Overview of the work sample process including: successful practices, dos and don'ts, narratives to contextualize your work samples, a discussion of the different requirements between work samples and promo videos, and the opportunity to look at the specific requirements and guidelines from funders. This session also includes a panel of local funders and artists, as well as hands-on instruction in capturing live performance on film. Participants will stage and document a short scene using the techniques discussed.
WEDNESDAY, MAY 29th at Bay Area Video Coalition 2727 Mariposa St San Francisco, CA 94110
PART 2 5:00pm - 7:00pm
Using the footage recorded in Part I, groups will receive step-by-step instructions for importing video files and learn how to edit the clips together in iMovie. The instructor will provide assistance and offer tips regarding transitions, titles, audio adjustments, and other editing features. Each group will be taught how to export and save their video file in a variety of formats.
EQUIPMENT:
FLIP cameras and computers will be provided for use during the session. Participants are encouraged to bring in cameras or editing software that they own, in order to discuss the particulars of their equipment with the instructor.
INSTRUCTORS:
DIANE RODRIGUEZ is a nationally recognized theatre artist who began her career with one of the most politically explosive theatre companies of the 70's and now is a regional theatre director, actor and writer as well as associate producer for the country's largest west coast theatre company, Center Theatre Group. Her career spans over twenty years of award winning theatre work.
BRUCE FRANCE is a New Orleans based theater artist, video producer and photographer with a diverse body of artistic and commercial work. Samples of his work can be found here: bfvp.net
