Ali Awan and Box of Books
Ali Awan is a Philadelphia based singer-songwriter born in Abington, PA. He grew up in Turkey and Saudi Arabia, finally settling back down in Abington where he would spend the rest of his childhood. He began playing shows in West Philly basements as a guitar and bass player at 15 yrs old. After getting turned onto the idea of songwriting by artists like The Velvet Underground, Johnathan Richman, David Bowie, & The Rolling Stones, he began to write his own songs. He hopes you enjoy those songs.
Box of Books is an alternative-folk band from Philadelphia + West Chester, PA. Formed by core members, bassist/vocalist Thomas Lombard and guitarist/vocalist Michael Trycieckyj, the band combines contemporary indie-rock songwriting with a traditional folk instrumentation including James Devor (mandolin), Bronwyn Livezey (violin), and Anthony Saddic (accordion). Appearing as a duo or full-group, the band plays shows of original music as well as "folked-up" cover sets at bars and restaurants in the Philadelphia/West Chester areas. Chock-full of literary references, wistful ballads, and a dash of self-depracating humor, Box of Books' debut album, "Expectations," is available to stream everywhere.
