Viva
Dir. Anna Billler US 2007 Saturated to the hilt with vibrant color and exquisite period detail, and full of the kind of innocent nude romps we saw before censorship codes lifted, Viva looks like a lost film from the late 60s, and is a tribute to the best of exploitation cinema. Director Anna Biller plays Barbi, a suburban housewife disaffected with the normalcy of her marriage and home life. With seemingly nothing to lose, she jumps into a new life in the 70s sexual revolution and becomes a Red Riding Hood in a sea of wolves. Quickly she learns a lot more than she wanted to about nudist camps, the hippie scene, orgies, bisexuality, sadism, drugs, and bohemia. More than a spoof, the film is an homage fearlessly crafted down to the last polyester fiber. Viva is a spectacular and vivid sexploitation recreation not to be missed!
