Juliet & Romeo presented by {Your Name Here} A Queer Theater
Juliet & Romeo directed and adapted by Mark Duncan and concept by Victoria Tucci. Tells the classic story of Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet and features the star-crossed lovers as a lesbian couple. Set in modern day America we are building on the already existing themes in Shakespeare's text of hate, homelessness and suicide in order to explore this story through the lens of, "what happens to queer youth when they are not given the support they need?"
This is {Your Name Here}'s first production using Theatre as Advocacy. Our advocacy campaign for Juliet & Romeo is focused around the idea of support and what we as individuals can do to support the queer youth and people in our lives. As a way to connect to our community outside of New York City the cast will be reaching out to schools in our home town and asking students their questions about support. We will be taking the feedback we get from the students, family and friends we talk with along with national statics and using twitter, tumbler and facebook to send out messages of support out to the community. We will also be sending out suggestions of things we as individuals can do to support members of the LGBTQ community.
If you would like to be involved with our advocacy campaign you can send messages of encouragement or thoughts about support to letterstoromeoqtc@gmail.com. You can also tweet us your messages @yournamehereNYC and use the hash-tags #letters2Romeo #theatreasadvocacy. We would love to hear from you!
