Christmas Smackdown 2018

Cherished Yuletide sentiments slammed to the mat in a reverse Argentine death choke. Original songs by Mark Nutter & Cynthia Carle include SANTA CLAUS LIVES IN YOUR MIND and SEVERED SWEDISH HEADS.

Full disclosure: Cynthia Carle and Mark Nutter discovered a while back that theyd each written a gang of Christmas songs that were just not right. Cynthia had about eight. Mark had about eight also. Then they wrote a couple of songs together, and because it seemed like a good idea at the time, they put all these songs together in a show they called the Christmas Smackdown.

These holiday songs are full of alcohol abuse, arson, decapitation, dinosaurs, divorce, demons, fatal sleigh accidents, murder, vengeful Christmas icons and other subjects even more festive. Nutter and Carle have performed the Smackdown in Los Angeles almost every year since around 2006. One year they forgot. Sometimes its been just Cynthia and Mark. Sometimes its been Cynthia, Mark, and some combination of Dazzling Other People. In addition to LA, the Smackdown has had productions in Chicago and New York.

This year, 2018, were doing FOUR WEEKENDS. Opening Nov 30, every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights thru Dec 23. at the beloved Cahuenga General Store (Hallenbecks). Much as we loved selling out last year, we didnt like turning people away. We think four weekends will fix all that. This years cast: Cynthia Carle, Brian Gillespie, Liesel Hanson, Mark Nutter, and Graham Skipper.

The Christmas Smackdown has become a beloved holiday tradition for many who, like the Smackdown itself, are just not right. Bringing someone to the Smackdown is a litmus test. If this date, spouse or friend does not laugh at these songs, it will be clear that although they may be a perfectly nice person, theyre not the date, spouse or friend for you.
