NORDIC STAGE 2
Scandinavian American Theater Company (SATC) proudly presents NORDIC STAGE 2 (NS2). A festival featuring 8 new staged readings of Scandinavian playwrights, including dramatists from The Bergman Studio & Dramaten/The Royal Dramatic Theatre in Sweden, Dramatikkens Hus/The Norwegian Centre for New Playwriting, and Mungo Park Theatre in Denmark. NORDIC STAGE's goal is to highlight the diversity and relevance of contemporary plays being produced in the Nordic countries today and showcases a variety of genres, styles and themes. NS2 Festival Program:
Friday, December 7th 4pm: COURTYARD by Tanja Lorentzon (Sweden) A dispute between neighbors escalates into a drama with inevitable consequences. Followed by talk-back with the playwright and the director, Pálína Jónsdóttir.
6pm: PRIVATE ROOMS by Alexander Ahndoril (Sweden) A close-up of the love affair between Ingmar Bergman and Käbi Laretei (short play). Followed by a panel discussion with NS2 guest artists Lena Endre, Jacob Hirdwall, Anders Budde Christensen and Alicia House: MANY FACES OF TRUTH - How do we create authentic and relatable theater in increasingly complex societies?
8pm: AIRBNBABY by Hilkka-Liisa Iivanainen & Salla Viikka (Finland) Uber-cool comedy about a baby-sharing startup. Followed by talk-back with the playwrights.
Saturday, December 8th 4pm: CARDAMOM by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Denmark) & Joe Derrick (UK) A couple with twins, two sisters, a dinner party, and a funeral. Followed by talk-back with the playwrights and the director, Henning Hegland.
6.45pm: GOLIATH by Maria Tryti Vennerød (Norway) The myth of David and Goliath continues in this poetic and brutal drama.
8.30pm: MANNING IS FREE by Anders Budde Christensen (Denmark) A monologue about many sides of the truth coming out. Followed by talk-back with the playwright.
Sunday December 9th 4pm: OUR PLACES ON EARTH by Lidija Praizovic (Sweden) Two monologues. Two women. Two world views. Followed by talk-back with the playwright.
5.30pm THE WOMAN WHO TURNED INTO A TREE by Lisa Langseth (Sweden) A monologue about a dark inner world with a sense of fashion. Followed by talk-back with the playwright.
