ASCE Seattle Section Ports and Harbors Committee Monthly Dinner
Rising worldwide demand for oil & natural gas (particularly in Asia) has led to the advent of several energy export projects in British Columbia. At least 7 LNG export projects and 2 bitumen (oil) projects are currently in the planning, design or construction stage.  Several other marine terminal projects related to the transport of energy or other goods are also planned or underway.  The combined value of all these projects is in the tens of billions of dollars. Despite the fact that British Columbia features one of the worlds most rugged and remote coastlines, the design and construction of some of these facilities is already underway.  This presentation presents an overview of some of these marine construction projects, focussing on the unique and interesting challenges involved in their planning, design and construction.

Outline:
Introduction
Overview of major projects planned or underway
The challenges of British Columbia's remote and rugged coast
Case studies of selected projects
