Mark Hummel's Blues Harp Blowout: A Little Walter Tribute with Corky Siegel, James Harman & Little Charlie Baty
Mark Hummel's Blues Harp Blowout: A Little Walter Tribute with Corky Siegel, James Harman & Little Charlie Baty
Hummel has handpicked this sterling lineup of musicians for the show and blues fans from near and far are invited to celebrate a CD release party at Arena Theater with these dynamite masters of the blues harp.
The idea for the Little Walter tribute recording grew out of a number of highly successful West Coast concerts in early 2012 that were part of an ongoing series of "Blues Harmonica Blowout" concerts organized by Mark Hummel, who is also the producer of the new release Remembering Little Walter. Said Hummel, "Walter changed all the rules and raised the bar so high that nobody has yet surpassed him either in innovation or technical prowess. Walter's original sides have become the holy grail all other harpers are still trying to aspire to."
Harmonica player, songwriter, and singer Mark Hummel is a practitioner of the West Coast blues style, which typically includes elements of jazz and swing. He;s been touring since 1984 and his Blues Harmonica Blowouts, dating back to 1991, have grown to be a much heralded blues event on the national scene. These multi harp packages have included John Mayall, Huey Lewis, Snooky Pryor, James Cotton, Kim Wilson, Rod Piazza, Carey Bell, Lazy Lester plus almost every other player of note on the blues harp. Hummel has been nominated four times for the best harmonica player Blues Music Award.
Harp player Corky Siegel has earned an international reputation as one of the world's great blues harmonica masters. He was introduced to the blues through his very first steady engagement at Peppers, the internationally renowned blues club where his job included performances with the blues masters themselves, such as Willie Dixon, Little Walter, Muddy Waters, and Howlin' Wolf.
California-based singer, harmonica player, songwriter, bandleader James Harman is a veteran of the blues roadhouse circuit and has released numerous albums over the years, picking up 10 W.C.Handy/BMA nominations along the way.
