Jingle Jazz
Thursday, December 13, 2018!

Ring in the holiday season while helping a great cause at the sixth annual Jingle Jazz concert on Thursday, December 13, at 7:00 pm, in Peninsula Colleges Little Theater. This year's event presented by The Olympus Group of DA Davidson, Sound Community Bank, and the Peninsula College Foundation.

Back by popular demand, Pearl Django, one of the most highly regarded Hot Club style groups working today, is this years featured guest, joining the Peninsula College Vocal Jazz Ensemble for a night of swingin music and lively holiday cheer.

Its always great to celebrate the many gifts we experience in our community, particularly at this time of year, says Elaine Gardner-Morales, PCs Vocal Jazz instructor. Vocal Harmony, a part of the Peninsula College Vocal Jazz group, has been busy performing and showing off their hard work and musical talent around our area this fall, at places like Olympic Cellars and Sherwood Village.

Gardner-Morales is especially excited about this years performance, and the return of Seattle-based Pearl Django. I couldnt be more pleased with the student learning, effort and the community response of our performances.

Last years concert helped send the Vocal Jazz singers to Ireland for a musical and cultural student exchange. Gardner-Morales and her students hope for another successful event that can send them on their next learning adventure.

This year Pearl Django, the well-known Seattle Gypsy Jazz group whose performance history spans more than two decades, will join the Ensemble. Although the bands roots are firmly in the music made famous by Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli, its extensive repertoire includes traditional jazz classics and original compositions. Pearl Django has performed at festivals, dances, and nightspots throughout the U.S. and abroad. They have played at the prestigious Festival Django Reinhardt in Samois sur Seine and have been featured on NPRs All Things Considered. The bands signature style is marked by pristine and dexterous string work, colors of Bal Musette, the steady pulse of rhythm guitar and an unmistakable swing that delights audiences of all musical sensibilities. Throughout the years, Pearl Django has cultivated a devoted and enthusiastic following and they continue to play to packed houses wherever they perform.

Pearl Django performed at Jingle Jazz two years ago, and we were overwhelmed by the response of audience members who asked us to bring them back, says Getta Rogers Workman, PC Foundation Executive Director. We hope to send the Vocal Jazz students to the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival in Moscow, Idaho in February, providing them with yet another exceptional learning experience. Proceeds from a successful concert will accomplish that.

Jingle Jazz is suited for audiences of all ages, with smooth harmonies and spirited tunes perfect for the holiday season. As in years past the show will include a variety of jazz styles and modern arrangements of classic jazz literature. Look for a great mix of instrumental, ensemble and solo performances, with opportunities for many of the performers to shine.

Vocal jazz ensemble members include Bee Wilkins, Brad Alemeo, Robbin Eaves, Alondra Franco, Megan Vandusen, Luke Weaver, Chris Burt, Christina Kohout, Tiara Delatorre, and Zoella Baumann.  A stellar lineup of musicians will back the group, including local favorites Al Harris on piano, Terry Smith on drums, Chuck Easton on guitar and Ted Enderle on bass.

General admission tickets can be purchased here for $15.00. Online ticket sales will close 24 hours before this event (at 7:00 pm PST on 12/12/18). If available, tickets may also be purchased for $15.00 at the door. Proceeds benefit PCs Vocal Jazz Ensemble and PC students and programs.
