I want to be a machine 3D construction workshop
About the day:

Artist Heather Lucchesi, from Lightbulb Arts will facilitate this day of 3D construction and problem solving, inspired by the works of Warhol and Paolozzi.

Well start with a look at the exhibition Andy Warhol and Eduardo Paolozzi | I want to be a machine to explore questions around how these artists are relevant today:

Warhol - Promoter of consumerism or a warning for the future?
Paolozzi - Upcycler or hoarder?

Machines and manual skills - a necessity or a luxury?
Youll have time to experiment with 2D and 3D creations, enjoy developing your own art and take away ideas to use back in class.
All materials are provided but you are invited to bring along packaging or found objects / save something from landfill to include in your work.

About the exhibition:
This exhibition takes its theme from a much-quoted remark by Andy Warhol: I want to be a machine. Behind Warhols seemingly facetious quip was the serious belief that art would become increasingly mechanised.

This exhibition examines Warhols and Paolozzis work, showing how they captured images from photography and advertisements. Warhol traced his images while Paolozzi used collage, until they both turned to screenprinting in the early 1960s to transform photographs into prints. The exhibition includes rarely seen drawings by Warhol from the 1950s, as well as his famous multi-coloured prints of Marilyn Monroe and a group of recently acquired stitched photographs. Works by Paolozzi include some of his early proto-Pop collages from the early 1950s and his kaleidoscopically-coloured prints from the 60s and 70s.
Exhibition runs 17 Nov 2018-2 June 2019
