Event
Scary Cow Independent Film Festival
Come out Saturday, November 10th to celebrate the newest batch of short films made by local filmmakers. You're invited to watch and then vote for the best films. The top-voted films will receive budget awards for future projects!
Scary Cow is a collective of filmmakers ranging from beginner to pro. Our films are a wide range of genres and a lot of fun to both make and watch! We believe the best way to learn to make films is to actually get out there and make films. Every six months, we watch the films we create together on the big screen at the historic Castro Theatre.
We'd love for you to be a part of our community and join us for the screening. Everyone is welcome. Support local filmmaking right here in the Bay Area!
All ticket proceeds go directly to fund future films made by our members.
If you're no stranger to our events, then you know we typically host an early afternoon screening of our films followed by an afterparty into the evening, all at the gorgeous Castro Theatre.
This screening, we are proud to join forces with SFFILM for their special screening of On the Basis of Sex, the origin story of modern-day superhero Ruth Bader Ginsberg starring Felicity Jones and Armie Hammer, both of whom will be in attendance for a Q&A after the screening! A separate ticket is required for entry, but a limited number of our Festival Passes will cover admission to both our Scary Cow fest and the screening of On the Basis of Sex.
- At 1pm, we kick off our program running 2.5 hours including intermission. Doors at 12:30pm.
- On the Basis of Sex starts at 6:30pm. See here for more details and to purchase tickets.
- We will resume with our After Party in the Castro Theatre Mezzanine at 9pm where you can meet filmmakers, toast everyone's hard work, and gab about future projects. We will also be announcing the winners of our Member Awards including budget awards to help fund more films. Be sure to purchase a Festival Pass to attend.
Online ticket sales will end at 9am the day of the screening. Tickets will be available for sale at the Castro Theatre Box Office starting at 12:00pm. If you'd like to save a couple bucks off door pricing, be sure to purchase your tickets online before 9am on the day of the show!
