Loretta Showcase featuring Dark Hollow Bottling Company
Oxbow is showcasing Loretta, a rustic blonde farmhouse ale brewed in the traditional style of the "grisette", a style of beer brewed to quench the thirst of coal miners in Belgium and France. They're also showcasing the brewers and farmers behind this beer.
This style of beer was often brewed with raw, or unmalted, grains sourced directly from the farms surrounding the breweries. We brewed Loretta with a large portion of unmalted spelt (a variety of wheat) from the Webb Family Farm located in nearby Pittston, Maine. The result is a thirst quenching, low alcohol blonde ale with a floral aroma and a subtle peppery character. The local spelt enhances the character of this beer tremendously.
Dark Hollow Bottling Company will be joining the party in the theater between 8-10pm. Dark Hollow Bottling Company is a string band based in Portland Maine where they have been concocting tunes since 2002. The Music of DHBC can loosely be classified as Americana; fusing bluegrass, folk, punk, rock and pop music. They are a living example of the American melting pot. DHBC's sophomore album, American Ghosts, made the top 30 in local sale in Maine in 2012 and was picked in the top 10 albums of the year in the Portland Phoenix. The boys of the Bottling Company will be concocting their tunes all over the state of Maine in the coming months, please check out www.darkhollowbottlingcompany.com for details.
"DHBC have also put out one of the best records I've had the pleasure of reviewing in 2012," says Kyle Garvais of Dispatch Magazine.
"Klein writes songs that are easy to quote in paragraphs, with phrases that hold your attention" Sam Pfiphile of the Portland Phoenix
