Alexandra Coutinho with Rio Con Brio
Rio Con Brio, one of the West coast's greatest interpreters of the Brazilian music known as choro, will be joined by the celebrated Portuguese fado singer Alexandra Coutinho who will perform the music of her native land.
Alexandra has lived in Portland for many years and her amazing voice and stage presence are well known to fans of Bossa do Fado and Pacific Fado. Known to world music fans as the "Portugese blues", fado is a rich poetic lyrical tradition sung in an intensely emotional and intimate style.
Rio Con Brio - Tim Connell (mandolin) and Mike Burdette (guitar) Rio Con Brio plays choro, the early 20th century street music of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Influenced by Afro-Brazilian rhythms and the cafe music of Italy, France and Portugal, choro is both exotic and familiar, evoking in turn the carnival of Rio and the cafes of Paris. Rio Con Brio performs chorinho with the virtuosity and passion that this amazing music tradition inspires.
