Orcas Island Garden Tour

The five exquisite gardens on the "Earth on Her Hands" Tour were created by women with a passion for plants and year-round engagement with the earth. The first garden is an aboretum of familiar and unfamiliar trees and shrubs. The second is a small jewel of design, arranged around a small cottage, garden house, and pond near the waterfront. The third garden is a cottage garden of several rooms, filled with flowers fruit, herbs, vegetables, and salvaged garden art. The fourth is a large property, magnificent for its pastoral setting of field and forest. The log house and several outbuildings feature sod roofs, maintained by wind and birds. The fifth garden is the personal canvas of a 20-year professional landscaper, the star of which is a 170-foot cutting garden of flowering perennials.
