Summer Concert for the Coast - the Ernest Bloch Bell Ringers and Friends
Gualala Arts LocalEyes Series presents The Ernest Bloch Bell Ringers' Summer Concert for the Coast, a benefit for the South Coast Senior Center, on Sunday, June 9, 3:00 p.m. in the Gualala Arts Center Coleman Auditorium.
Under the direction of Jeanne Jackson, the Bell Ringers delight in playing a wide variety of songs with their set of four and a half octaves of English handbells and handchimes. From "My Heart Will Go On," to the Swahili "Bwana Awabariki" and "The Bells of Notre Dame," the sound of the bells will fill the auditorium.
Singing is also an important part of this group. Remi Alexander will sing "The Rose." She will also sing "Over The Rainbow" and the audience will be invited to sing along. Rachel Kritz and Linda Bostwick sing in two-part harmony on "Let's Go Fly a Kite" from the musical Mary Poppins.
Highlights of the afternoon are sure to be "Just a Closer Walk With Thee" with Eric Kritz joining the bells on clarinet, and Don Krieger on keyboards on "You Raise Me Up."
Joining the Bell Ringers is the singing group The Redwood Tree-O, consisting of Sita Milchev, Laurie Kreger and Tony Ariola, accompanied by Don Krieger on keyboards. They will get your feet tapping with a medley from The Chiffons: "Sweet Talkin' Guy," "He's So Fine," and "One Fine Day." They also will perform the pop hit by the Shirelles, "Baby, I'm Yours."
Jeanne Jackson says, "There will be something for everyone at this concert. We love our Senior Center and want to support and honor them by performing this fun summer concert."
Tickets are $10 in advance, $5 more day of performance. Children and youth 17 & under are free and encouraged to attend. To purchase in person, visit the Gualala Arts Center or Dolphin Gallery in Gualala.
