Salute to GAZELA Party at the Seaport
05/13/2013 Update: This party has been postponed until after GAZELA returns from her trip to Norfolk & Baltimore. Stay tuned for the new date.
Last year, "The Heart of a Ship -- Stories from the Crew of Gazela Primeiro" was published as mostly a book of shared memories for those who have sailed on the historic tall ship GAZELA PRIMEIRO over the four decades she has been based in Philadelphia. However, the book also attracted some outside attention, and now YACHTING MAGAZINE has taken notice by featuring the ship and excerpts from the book in its May issue.
Normally, the members of the Philadelphia Ship Preservation Guild, the non-profit that preserves and sails GAZELA, only needs a little reason to throw a party. Since this is a big reason, we're throwing a big party.
Come join us on Wednesday, May 22nd, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Independence Seaport Museum, on Columbus Boulevard at Walnut Street. There will be food and drink. There will be many of the book's story contributors there, and a recently discovered film of GAZELA leaving Lisbon in 1971 will be shown. GAZELA will be docked in front of the museum and open for tours.
If you don't have a copy of the book yet, you may order one with your party ticket. All proceeds of this event will go to the continued preservation of the historic tall ship GAZELA PRIMEIRO.
