Neil Cohen with Todd Schroeder - Neil's Basement Tapes
Dinner at 6pm, Show at 8pm.
Neil Cohen, a native New Yorker, first experienced the thrill of performing when he won Second Place in his summer camps annual talent show at the age 8. A fire was lite that day. Thereafter, for many years Neil chased that flame as a regular featured soloist at The Cat Club, The Bitter End, Triad and Joes Pub - just to name a few of New Yorks iconic clubs in which he performed. In the 80s, Neil was signed to a division of Virgin Records which was also the home of Right Said Fred and other familiar 80s pop recording talents. In 1995 Neil recorded his signature album Day Off, which produced two number 1 hits on Sirius Radio. Now a full time Palm Springs resident, this marks his solo debut at The Purple Room. So sit back. Go ahead and hit the Rewind Button on your cassette deck. Now be prepared to speed back in time to a dark, safe and cozy basement in faraway Queens New York, where a young man is free to express his hearts desire by singing at the top of lungs to an adoring imaginary crowd. Neils Basement Tapes transports us joyfully in time back through the sounds of 70s Yacht Rock, Classic Love Pop, Broadways tunes and the occasional original song at least until moment when mom calls us to come upstairs to have dinner.
