Patrick Dewane tells the true story of his grandfather, a man whose seemingly goofy CB radio-handle during the 1970's - "The Accidental Hero" - was really a clue to his incredible story as a WWII Czech-American soldier fighting in the forests of his family's ancient homeland.
Dewane's grandfather, Colonel Matt Konop, rarely talked about World War II after his return. Years after his death, Dewane was handed a pile of typewritten pages that a family member had discovered in a box in the basement. What Dewane read was an epic tale that was part Forrest Gump, part Luke Skywalker and part General Patton. Written and performed by Patrick Dewane, the grandson of the old WWII war hero, it is, according to award-winning author Patricia Hampl, "a tour de force of storytelling". Daniel Freeman of the Smithsonian Institute called it, "Impossible to forget. Remarkable".
This program is a powerful performance-style presentation that is riveting, educational and emotionally charged. Appropriate for the whole family, please be sure to join us!
