Jazz Guitarist Roni Ben-Hur in Concert
Temple Israel of Greater Miami, in concert with South Florida jazz station WDNA 88.9 FM, will launch its Jazz at Temple Israel Series on Saturday, May 18 at 8 p.m. in the Bertha Abess Sanctuary at the temple, 137 NE 19th St., Miami.

Kicking off the series will be the acclaimed Israeli born, New York City-based jazz guitarist Roni Ben-Hur, called by Jazz Weekly "one of the unheralded guitarists on the modern jazz scene." Widely respected by his peers, jazz educational institutions and critics as one of the "elite players in jazz today," Ben-Hur's signature sound infuses jazz with melodies and rhythms from many cultures. His 2009 release Fortuna earned raves as yet another fine chapter in his swinging and emotionally gripping book of jazz. His 2012 album, Our Thing, made with bassist Santi Debriano and percussionist Duduka Da Fonseca, was described by the Latin Jazz Network as "absolutely enthralling."

Ben-Hur has performed with Barry Harris, Ronnie Mathews, Rufus Reid, Chris Anderson, Cecil Payne, Walter Booker, Etta Jones, Marcus Belgrave, Charles McPherson, Leroy Williams, Charles Davis, John Hicks, Jimmy Heath, Clark Terry, Amy London, Slide Hampton, Earl May, Teri Thornton, Lewis Nash, Steve Kroon, and Bill Doggett.

Building on a foundation of his many years performing with jazz legends and teaching in top institutions, Ben-Hur, who authored the popular Talk Jazz Guitar and released a new instructional DVD in 2010, works primarily as a band leader and jazz educator, heading up a variety of jazz camps and performing at festivals and concert venues internationally.

For Ben-Hur, jazz is not only a calling, it is a life force. Along with being a prodigious player, composer, arranger and bandleader, Ben-Hur has truly dedicated himself to educating others about the joys and rewards of playing jazz and, in turn, has done as much to generate a new audience, and new players, for this music as anyone on the scene.
