Rainwater Collection Workshop
Rainwater collection is an effective way of utilizing a free natural resource. In this workshop you will find out how to build and install a simple rain barrel, discover the amount of water you may be able to collect in the Spokane area as well as learn the water needs of local plants. All attendees will learn methods for gaining maximum benefit from harvested rainwater. Stan Miller retired from over 20 years as the Director of Spokane County's Water Resources program. While at the County, Stan did considerable research on the potential impacts of rainwater runoff on water quality in both surface and groundwater in the region. Since retiring he has stayed active in the field of water resources especially the use of Low Impact Design for the management of rainwater runoff. In recent years capturing rainwater form building roofs has become an important tool in the overall storm water management portfolio. Stan has designed rainwater capture systems for roofs ranging from less than 1000 square feet to nearly 10,000 square feet. In addition he has done considerable research on the efficient use of captured rainwater for home yards and gardens.
