Nimbus Dance Works' 2013 Jersey City Spring Season: UNPLUGGED
Join Nimbus Dance Works for its annual Jersey City Spring Season at the Barrow Mansion in Downtown Jersey City from May 30th-June 1st. These intimate performances feature historic dance works, an international collaboration, and popular favorites from the company's repertory.
The result of several years of planning, Nimbus Dance Works collaborates with The Charles Weidman Dance Foundation to present a rare staging of Weidman's classic work, Lynchtown (1936). This seminal modern dance work, choreographed in response to Weidman's witnessing of a lynching as a boy in Nebraska, is recognized for the poignancy of its depiction of mob violence and hatred. Nimbus Dance Works performs Weidman's work in conjunction with Artistic Director Samuel Pott's We Acquiesce, a new work inspired by the socio-political activism of Lynchtown and set to a commissioned score by composer Peter James Saleh. The Jersey City Spring Season is also highlighted by "poetic moments of exquisite line and breath" (Deborah Wingert of Eye on Dance) in Shadow of Sound, choreographed by Huang Yi of Taiwan through an international collaboration. Returning to the performance program are Pedro Ruiz's Danzón, characterized by the elegance and dazzling style of the Cuban music form, and Pott's historically insightful Letter Home.
Don't miss this rare opportunity to see Nimbus Dance Works in such an intimate performance!
