Event
The Art of Whiskey Tasting at The North Park Festival of Arts
Join Whiskey connoisseur Clarke Boyer on May 18th in one of three tasting events featuring select award-winning whiskeys and scotches, including Glendfiddich, Monkey Shoulder, Tullamore D.E.W., and Hudson. Monkey Shoulder and Hudson Four Grain Bourbon were both recently awarded the Double Gold Medal at the 2013 San Francisco World Spirits competition. Whiskey Descriptions: Glendfiddich: In the summer of 1886, with the help of his seven sons and two daughters, William Grant set out to fulfill a lifelong ambition. Together they began building his distillery by hand, stone by stone. After a single year of work it was ready and William named it Glenfiddich, Gaelic for Valley of the Deer. William's passion, determination and pioneering spirit continues to guide us. Glenfiddich is one of the few single malt distilleries to remain entirely family owned and is now the World's Most Awarded Single Malt* Scotch Whiskey, a true reflection of our founder's integrity and innovative spirit, passed down through the generations. Tullamore D.E.W.: Glasses Up to the Irish True Tullamore D.E.W. is a triple distilled blend of grain, malt, and still pot whiskeys, which gives it complexity. The Tullamore DEW range has won 31 gold medals in the last 10 years and celebrates the rebellious and poetic nature of the True Irish Spirit - not green beer, leprechauns and pots of gold! Monkey Shoulder: With its mischievous nod at the traditional Scotches, Monkey Shoulder is leading the way in captivating a new generation of whisky drinkers. New as it is, Monkey Shoulder is authentic to its core and creating a stir, by bringing a contemporary cheeky style into a world where tradition is the norm. The journey begins when we select three of Speyside's finest malts and allow them to mature in first fill Bourbon casks prepared by our own coopers. Hudson Whiskey: SMALL BATCHES GOING BIG Leading by example, pulling yourself up, and making things work without an instructional guide are definitive ways to finding success in America. And no craft distillers live this more than Ralph and Gable of Hudson Whiskey. With a strong will and a clear vision, Ralph and Gable built a brand with gumption. From creating completely new styles of American whiskeys to re imagining how to mature them with sound, Hudson Whiskeys are a product of first steps and fresh thinking. They represent the finest in American craft which is not weighed down by history or tradition, but instead is a celebration of quality ingredients or materials and the skill used to reshape them. And as true leaders, Hudson Whiskey is bringing their thinking to other American craft-distillers distilling across the country, inspiring their peers, reshaping laws and raising the quality bar for the craft movement. About The Host: Clarke Boyer: Clarke's love affair with whisky began in college when he bartended and brewed beer at a pub with 300 single malts. Soon after, he began a 5 year stint as a distiller and Barrel Manager with Stranahan's Colorado Whiskey. He completed a month-long distillery internship on the Isle of Islay in Scotland. No stranger to adventure, He left Stranahan's to own and operate the Rackhouse Pub, one of Colorado's top pubs. These days, Clarke has returned to his California roots to become an Ambassador for Hudson Whiskey and Monkey Shoulder. About William Grant & Sons: Established in 1887, William Grant & Sons is an award-winning, family-owned independent distiller with a portfolio of premium spirits enjoyed around the world. Founded by William Grant in the small highland village of Dufftown, the company has passed through five generations of the Grant family. William Grant & Sons distills some of the world's leading brands of Scotch whiskey.
