An emotional tribute to composer-director, Rafael "Rafi" Schächter, one of a corps of educators, artists, actors, writers, and musicians who despite Nazi deprivations at the Theresienstadt concentration camp mounted robust spiritual resistance with a brimming schedule of cultural events. Using a battered piano in a dank basement, Schächter held secret musical gatherings and eventually trained a chorus of singers for 15 precision performances of one of the most challenging of all choral works, Verdi's Requiem. This sophisticated documentary combines survivor interviews, innovative animation, re-enactment, vintage photography and excerpts from a stunning 2010 memorial concert at Theresientstadt.
