ORCHESTRA OF EXILES 7:00 PM USA ENGLISH DIRECTOR: JOSH ARONSON DOCUMENTARY / 85 MINUTES
Uplifting. Richly-researched. Bronislaw Huberman was a Polish born (1882) violin prodigy. At 13, he brilliantly performed Brahms for Brahms. But Nazism transformed Huberman from artist to prophetic activist. Overcoming all barriers (including David Ben-Gurion who, for a nascent Jewish homeland, sought hardy pioneers not "fancy" musicians), Huberman rescued 1,000 Jewish exiles and brought them to Palestine in 1936 to found a national orchestra whose initial concerts were conducted by the renowned Arturo Toscanini. Huberman seeded an enduring legacy that is still being passed from musician to musician. With remarks by contemporary virtuosos, Itzhak Perlman, Pinchas Zuckerman and the heir to Huberman's Stradivarius.
