Ukulele Class (8+) Families Welcome!
Monday 1:00pm - 2:30pm June 17 - June 20
The Ukulele has gone viral. Now's the time to get involved with this incredible instrument. This is a fun class that encourages individuals and families to learn and play together. Class covers basic ukelele chords, vamps, strum patterns and other techniques needed to learn a few songs. Learn to strum then sing along.
Instructor: Courtney Anderson; At the age of three, while watching her father emcee a barbershop dinner show, Courtney jumped down from her chair, walked up onto the stage where her dad was standing and gently tugged at his coat to get his attention. Surprised by this tug on his jacket, her father laughed and introduced his daughter to the audience. Courtney stood there with her hand pointing at the microphone and assertively said, "My turn." Taking the microphone from her dad's hand, she promptly walked to the end of the stage, sat down, and began to sing "The Itsy Bitsy Spider." At the end, the audience giggled and applauded as her dad tried to retrieve the microphone, but Courtney continued to sit there and said, "No, do again!" And so, she sang it again. After this performance, Courtney's parents realized their daughter's uncanny ability to entertain an audience, and enrolled her into singing and piano lessons, both classical and jazz, and various singing groups throughout the years. Later, in college, she also developed a love for guitar and ukulele, accompanying herself on many shows. Courtney continues to pursue her love of music at Sacramento State University where, after completed four years of Vocal Jazz training, she recently switched her major to Music Management. Outside of teaching at the McLaughlin Studios, Courtney sings alto for the VoCALs -a 50's do-wop group, and bass in the Region 12, 3rd place champion, Sweet Adeline Quartet 'Anticipation!' When asked why Courtney wants to pursue music, her response is always the same, "I want to make a difference in the world and music is the best vehicle I can think ofit's hard to be angry or upset when you're singing.
